Hello! My name is Jessica, you can call me Jessie. I was born and raised in the NorthWest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. From my earliest memories, my interests have always been clear: CREATIVITY and CARING. My educational and career path has reflected these in various combinations throughout my life. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art Education (focusing on visual art), a Master of Social Work, and a Bachelor of Education, all from the University of Calgary.

For over 15 years, I have facilitated art and creativity to community groups and individuals, with a focus on developing creative confidence, building community, and finding an artistic voice.

I spent several of those years working with children and youth in the United Church of Canada. My work there was to teach leadership skills, build relationships, play with story and song, and facilitate social justice projects. I worked in local, regional, and national capacities, which gave me a good sense of navigating within a large, diverse organization. The highlight of this work was a year-long, cross-Canada tour with a colleague. We planned and fundraised the entire trip ourselves, and travelled to over 40 communities, bringing the voices of youth and young adults to the larger structure of the organization.

My hobbies and interests include creating mixed-media art, practicing my knitting and crochet skills, learning to play the ukulele, reading, researching my family history, and cooking.

I recently completed a one-year volunteer internship with Humainologie & the Calgary Centre for Global Community, an organization that works to promote the “recognition of our shared humanity” through engaging people with story, facilitating learning and action, and connecting with a variety of audiences in creative ways. I hope to continue supporting this amazing group on a more informal basis as time allows.
